Actor Krishna Kumari passes away at 85
Veteran actress Krishna Kumar has passed away this morning in Bengaluru. She was 83. According to the reports, she was undergoing treatment for her ill-health. She was one of the leading stars in the 60s and 70s of Telugu cinema. Apart from Telugu, she acted in movies of Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi languages. She acted in over 100 films and she quit movies after 1980. After her marriage to Indian-express editor Ajay Khaitan in the late 70s, Krishna Kumar has settled in Bangalore.
Krishna Kumari is known for her work in Telugu films, but she also had a sound body of work in Tamil and Kannada cinema. She made her debut with Pathala Bhairavi (1951), where she played a small role. Her first film as the lead actress was Navvithe Navratnalu (1951).
Krishna Kumari was the younger sister of another well-known south actress Sowcar Janaki. She was married to Ajay Mohan Khaitan, who is the former editor of The Indian Express and the founder of Screen and Businessman magazines.
